Hey, Mom

Hey Mom, I just found out about your nomination! That's awesome! You should really let me know how it goes. To celebrate, I decided to include one of our latest, greatest pics of Cade - thought you'd appreciate that. Oh and don't worry, I found out about your new email address (motheristheboss@yahoo.com). You should check your email.

Cade Comes Home!

First he checks out his new carseat...

Then he gets pushed down the hall by Dad and Big Brother...

And after a 40 minute drive home he walks (figuratively, of course) through the front door with Mom and Big Brother.

What a babe!

Kami, not Cade. Doesn't she look great after giving birth!

"I'm not drunk, really...

I'm just not used to seeing anything." We took this after one of Cade's feedings (which are going very well, by the way). The rashy stuff on his left cheek is from the tube they had taped to his nose for "gavage" (pronounced like garage, but with a v) feedings. He should be coming home tomorrow, once he's had a full day or so eating without help.

Suntanning...

We thought Cade's sunglasses were really cool as he got tanned for a little jaundice that he had. It wasn't bad, but supposedly this can help give him more energy, which he needs for eating. He did well today and ate enough from Mom twice to not need feeding through the tube. If he keeps that up he should be home early next week.

Psycho Bud and Little Dude

Those are my nicknames for Reagan and Cade, respectively. Here they are getting to know each other.

Feeding Frenzy

Sorry, no picture this time. I forgot the camera at the hospital, so you'll have to wait till I go back. I thought I should give a Cade update though. He's got a clean bill of health but... (yeah, don't you hate those "but"s, they always mean that you can now ignore everything said up to that point) ... the hospital wants him to stay until he's eating well. He is still being fed through a tube in his nose every other feeding (and nursing/bottle on the other), and they want him to get in eight good consecutive nursing/bottle feedings before discharging him. The nurses think that will take a few days (read 2-6) depending on when it clicks. They're basically treating him like a premature baby, because all of symptoms he's had are just what babies go through when they come early, and the feeding issue is right along with it.
In related news, Kami's mom is coming up to spend a while with us and help with all the challenges having a Mom-less house. I have to say that I've been very humbled by the recognition that I'm not a good Mom. I am in fact, quite a failure as a Mom. Reagan won't be scarred for life or anything, but I think we both prefer it when I play the Dad in the family.
In totally unrelated news, there is a Democratic convention going on. I hope I can catch up on my politics after this whole episode.

P.S. One of the forthcoming pics features Reagan holding Cade.

Reagan meets Cade

Reagan was so excited to see "baby Cade" that he kept trying to climb up the cart that Cade's bassinet is on top of. He did manage to keep his touching "soft" for which Mom and Dad were grateful. You can see that Cade has a little tube going into his nose. He's well now, but in the process got a lot of food from an IV, and hasn't really gotten the hang of eating yet. We got lucky and they moved him into a private room now, so Kami can stay the night and get him used to eating from her, which is the last thing we need before he can come home. With luck, he'll come home Thursday.
